Profit margins are tight in the tree care industry, so minor process improvements can add up to increased productivity for your business.
Take for example Jeffrey Meredith Jr., owner of Sussex Tree Inc., who discovered that organizing the way his crews and equipment are scheduled helps reduce the amount of time spent getting to the jobsites each day.
“When I took over the business from my father, I implemented a more efficient way to schedule customer jobs by looking at the way the crews are being applied to those jobs — meaning the type of equipment they take to the jobsite every day,” said Meredith Jr. “When I first started, there was a little bit of chaos in the morning deciding what crew got what equipment. Now we plan a couple months ahead of time which crew is doing which job and which equipment they are using to help eliminate frustration getting out the door in the morning.”
In addition to streamlining the deployment process, Meredith Jr. believes that scheduling the same crew members to work together and use the same equipment day in and day out allows them to “master” its operation, which further improves efficiency.
