How HDD contractors can avoid unexpected repair costs with Vermeer Confidence Plus® asset protection program

Vermeer machine being repaired

Horizontal directional drill (HDD) operators don’t want a service event to derail their work during peak installation season.

Whether the job calls for laying fiber, running utility conduit or completing pipeline segments, packed schedules don’t have room for unexpected and unwanted surprises.

What is your plan to keep your equipment up and running? If you don’t have one, chances are you could be at risk of delays.

Vermeer Confidence Plus® asset protection program is designed to help HDD contractors stay ahead of equipment service needs, maintain directional drill maintenance schedules, and reduce the risk of a repair event turning into a scheduling crisis.

Keep reading to learn more about how Vermeer Confidence Plus program works and why proactive planning matters.

How planned directional drill maintenance helps save you time

Contractors equipped with Vermeer Confidence Plus program aren’t just buying coverage — they’re building a planned maintenance schedule that helps protect the performance and long-term value of complex equipment.

Structured maintenance can translate to operational savings in several ways:

  • Parts can be identified and replaced before failure, helping reduce the risk of emergency repair costs and parts expediting fees.
  • Regular inspections help detect wear components early, keeping operators running efficiently rather than troubleshooting in the field
  • Detailed service records support resale value
  • Financing planned maintenance through a single upfront payment removes unpredictable related invoices from your peak season cash flow

The checklist that Vermeer Confidence Plus technicians follow helps identify conditions that, left unaddressed, could become the mid-season repair event that sidelines a crew.

How Vermeer dealers keep you up and running with the Vermeer Confidence Plus program

Picture this: You experience a mechanical issue mid-shift during a busy urban bore. One call to your Vermeer dealer has a technician onsite. The technician diagnoses the issue and makes a repair onsite, and your machine is back up and running.

With Vermeer Confidence Plus program, you are protected against covered costly repairs, and it’s just one scenario that illustrates the benefit of having a dealer relationship and a service plan in place.

Dealer support for Vermeer Confidence Plus program members includes:

  • Proactive service scheduling: Paired with Vermeer Telematics, Vermeer dealers can coordinate with you when your equipment is due and alert you in advance so service can be planned around your project calendar — not around a maintenance issue.
  • Fast turnaround: Knowledgeable dealers can tap into factory expertise, service resources, and product insight to diagnose issues and make informed repairs.
  • Onsite field support: When urgent issues arise, dealers can dispatch certified technicians directly to the job site to diagnose and resolve problems.
  • Certified parts and labor: All work is performed by Vermeer-trained technicians using genuine Vermeer components, helping protect performance.

Why you shouldn’t wait until a repair impacts your schedule to consider equipment protection

HDD contractors most at risk during a service event are those who haven’t addressed their equipment coverage until something goes wrong. At that point, decisions about parts, repair authorization and crew scheduling are being made under pressure — which rarely produces the best outcome for timelines or budgets.

Vermeer Confidence Plus program is most effective as a planning tool. When coverage and service schedules are in place before your busiest work periods begin, you’re not reacting — you’re prepared, with a plan you feel confident in executing.

Questions contractors should consider include:

  • Do I know when my equipment is due for its next service interval?
  • If a major component fails tomorrow, would my coverage handle the repair cost without disrupting project cash flow?
  • Are my service records current in a way that supports machine resale value?
  • Is my in-house service capacity stretched during peak season?

If any answers to these questions are uncertain, it’s worth a conversation with your local Vermeer dealer before your next busy stretch starts. Waiting until an unplanned repair occurs is the most expensive time to start thinking about equipment protection.

How to get started with Vermeer Confidence Plus program

Vermeer Confidence Plus program coverage is available for both new and pre-owned Vermeer equipment, with flexible options designed to fit how you work.

  • New equipment: Vermeer Confidence Plus program can be added to your initial purchase finance package or lease. For industrial units, including horizontal directional drills, coverage can also be purchased anytime within the first year of ownership. The program is eligible to be included in a finance contract when sold with a qualifying machine.
  • Pre-owned equipment: Pre-owned Vermeer Confidence Plus program coverage is available following a comprehensive inspection by a Vermeer dealer service technician. Coverage terms, limits, and scope can be customized to fit your fleet and operational needs. Coverage is honored at participating Vermeer dealers nationwide.
