Loading a machine efficiently sets it up to work optimally — and Vermeer brush chippers are no exception. Here are a few things to keep in mind to load your Vermeer brush chipper efficiently to maximize productivity on the jobsite.
- Load limbs stump end first: By loading large material with the thicker, stump end first, the chipper does not have to work against the limbs. This allows the wood waste to move through the chipper efficiently.
- Load from the side: When feeding the brush chipper by hand, stand to the side of the infeed tray. This allows you clearance to back away while it is chipping to collect other materials.
- Load with a skid steer: You can load brush chippers using machinery — including Vermeer mini skid steers. Using equipment allows you to move more material than you could by hand. By using a mini skid steer in tandem with the brush chipper, you’ll move material more efficiently through your machine.
- Use limbs to push debris in: If there is debris on the feed table, use a small branch to help guide it into the feeding mechanism. This utilizes material that will be fed into the chipper anyway!
Loading a brush chipper efficiently will allow you and your team to accomplish more work in less time. Tips like these, coupled with exclusive technologies like SmartFeed, will allow maximum productivity from your Vermeer brush chipper day after day.
