What’s one of the most innovative new products in the construction industry? It’s none other than the Vermeer VX75 vacuum excavator

That’s according to Equipment Today’s 14th annual Contractors’ Top 50 New Products Award. The VX75 stood out among hundreds of products reviewed by the Equipment Today editorial team this past summer.

“This honor represents the hard work of the whole team and our commitment to contractors,” Jake Jeffords, Vermeer MV Solutions director of sales, marketing and global accounts, said about the announcement. “It validates our focus on delivering innovative machinery that helps customers maximize their production while working efficiently.”

The VX75 is certainly a deserving winner. This powerful vacuum excavator is designed to excel in challenging utility work, including potholing, horizontal directional drilling slurry management and microtrenching dust containment.

Contractors’ Top 50 New Products Award: How VX75 earned the honor

Equipment Today began the award process in April 2023, reviewing new product introductions featured in the magazine and on ForConstructionPros.com over a 12-month period. The editorial team follows audience insights to identify the year’s top picks, exhibiting innovation, quality, efficiency and productivity in the commercial construction environment.

The Contractors’ Top 50 New Products Award has become a go-to resource for construction professionals seeking the latest equipment innovations. Its significance lies in its user-driven selection process, where winners are chosen based on reader interest and online engagement, reflecting the priorities of those who actually use the machines.

The Equipment Today team reviews hundreds of products across the construction spectrum to select just 50 winners, highlighting innovations that drive productivity in the field. This award highlights advancements in the construction equipment industry, a significant contributor to the U.S. economy.

Powerful performance meets versatility with the VX75

The Vermeer VX75 features a powerful 1,500-cfm (42.5-m3/min) vacuum blower generating 15 in Hg (381 mm Hg) suction force. It offers a 5-in (12.7-cm) hydraulic boom for standard units, with a 4-in (10.2-cm) option for air and jetter versions.

Powered by a 74.3-hp (56-kW) Kubota diesel engine, the VX75 comes with either a 500-gal (1,893.7-L) spoil tank and two 125-gal (473-L) freshwater tanks, or an 800-gal (3,028-L) spoil tank with two 205-gal (776.5-L) freshwater tanks. It includes an 8-gpm (30.3-L/min), 3,000-psi (206.8-bar) water system, dual cyclone filtration and a full open cam spoil tank door.

The VX75’s full-function remote control enables operators to manage all machine functions remotely, streamlining operations like slurry management and potentially saving time and fuel.

Optional configurations include a 180-cfm, 110-psi (5.1-m3/m, 7.58-bar) air compressor for dry digging, an 18-gpm at 2,000-psi (68.1-L/min at 138-bar) jetter for pipe cleaning up to 12 in (30.2 cm) diameter, and an 8-gpm (30.3-L/min) auxiliary hydraulic system. Additional accessories such as a strong arm, arrow board, 300,000 BTU hot box, and external kerosene tank are also available.
